Josh Richardson Has Shown Up Since 2020. His Family Followed

Josh Richardson walked into Wotown Fit in 2020 with one goal. He wanted to change his health.

That’s it. No grand plan beyond that. Just a decision to show up and do something different.

Five years later, he’s down 30-plus pounds. His wife Sara is a member. His son Brennan has grown up inside these walls, and now he’s a member too. Brennan plays basketball, runs track, and competes in sports. None of that is a coincidence.

It all started with one person deciding to take care of himself.

Josh leads in the maintenance operation at Regions Bank. That kind of role does not come with a lot of downtime. He coaches Brennan in sports. He and Sara are present for everything their daughter is involved in. His schedule is full in the way that most parents in North Jefferson County know well.

And yet he is at the gym. At 5:15 in the morning if that’s what fits. At 4:30 in the afternoon if the day went long. He finds the slot that works and he fills it. Season after season.

I want to be honest about what five years of this actually looks like, because it is not a straight line.

Josh has lost weight. He has gained some back. He has lost it again. There have been stretches where life got heavy and the scale reflected it. There have been stretches where everything clicked. What has not changed is that he keeps showing up. The consistency is not tied to how the results are trending. It just exists on its own.

That is rarer than people think.

Most people treat the gym like a transaction. They come when things are going well or when they are motivated. They disappear when life gets hard or when progress stalls. Josh does not operate that way. He shows up in the good seasons and the hard ones, and over time that has added up to something real.

Thirty-plus pounds. A stronger body. A healthier life. And a family that watched him do it and decided they wanted the same thing.

Sara joined because she saw what it did for her husband. Brennan is a member now, competing in multiple sports, because the gym has been part of his world since he was young. That is the part of this story that does not show up in any before and after photo.

Josh came in to change his own health. He ended up changing his family’s.

We talk a lot about what coaching and community can do for a person. Josh is a good example of what it can do for a household.

He does not complain. He does not make excuses. He just shows up, does the work, and goes back to his life. Five years in, that is still exactly what he does.

If you have been thinking about starting, or restarting, that is the whole blueprint right there.
