Just Remind Me That I Don't Want to Disappoint Myself

Jennifer Boully walked into her No Sweat Intro with Erin six years after having her seventh child.

She was the heaviest she had ever been. She was exhausted and overwhelmed. She was not in a good place mentally. She had tried other gyms. She had tried dieting programs. She had started and stopped more times than she wanted to count.

She told me that meeting with Erin was her last-ditch effort. Her exact words were, “If this doesn’t work, I don’t know what I’m gonna do.”

That is a heavy thing to carry into a conversation. But she showed up anyway.

During that No Sweat Intro Erin asked her a question we ask a lot of people. What could we say to you when you’re ready to quit? Jennifer started crying. Not because the question was hard, but because she realized in that moment how many times she had already quit on herself. Over and over and over again. She did not want to do that anymore.

She told Erin, “I just need you to remind me that I don’t want to disappoint myself.”

That was the whole plan. Not a nutrition program or a workout schedule. Just one honest statement about what she needed most.

Jennifer started with one on one sessions with Erin through that first summer. She has seven kids. She knows what hard looks like. She said it was maybe one of the hardest things she had done. But she kept showing up because someone was waiting on her. That accountability was the thing that had been missing every other time she had tried.

She is now in her third year at Wotown Fit.

She has lost 30 pounds. But she will be the first to tell you that the weight is not the point. She has set small goals along the way and hit them. Then set new ones. She has proven to herself, repeatedly, that she can do hard things. That is the part she holds onto.

She has not officially hit that very first goal she walked in with. She is honest about that. But she has become someone who does not quit when things get hard. That is a different kind of result, and in my opinion it is the more important one.

Jennifer’s story is one of the clearest pictures I know of what coaching actually does that a program on your phone cannot. It was not the workouts that changed things for her. It was someone sitting across from her, asking the right question, and then showing up every session to hold her to the answer she gave.

Erin did that. Jennifer did the work.

Three years in, she is still here. Still setting goals. Still showing up.

If you are reading this and Jennifer’s story sounds familiar, you are not alone. Most people who walk through our door have tried something before. Most of them have disappointed themselves more than once. That is not a character flaw. It is what happens when you try to do something hard without the right structure around you.

That structure is what we provide.

Come have a conversation with us. That is all it takes to start.
